Rama wants NRA renamed S. Osmeña Business Park

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama said he wants to regulate the use of roads at the North Reclamation Area  to preserve road  conditions improved by City Hall.

The mayor also suggested passing an ordinance declaring the NRA the  S. Osmeña Business Park where  regulations on road use would be put in place.

He directed assistant city administrator Dominic Dino to draft an ordinance for action by the City Council this month.

“I’m serious about bringing sanity to the roads in the north. Restrictions will have to be made and some activities (at the NRA) relocated so that use of the road will be maximized. We can also put a limit to only allow light vehicles in the area,” said Rama.

Rama said that if NRA roads are already in good shape, the city government could then consider transferring the route of the annual Sinulog grand parade there.

The  city government recently spent P100 million for the improvement of J. de Veyra Road at NRA. Asphalting projects would also be implemented in other roads at the NRA, said Rama.

Rama said he would seek  private sector help to improve other city roads.

He said he would have wanted the city to benefit from  a  P300 million fund which Rep. Tomas Osmeña identified to spend to improve roads in the south district , but which the mayor wanted realigned for roads in the north.
