MMDA exempts groups conducting relief ops from truck ban, number coding

/ 04:34 PM August 10, 2012

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Friday reminded groups transporting relief goods by use of trucks that they are exempted from both truck ban and number coding.

In an advisory posted over its Twitter account, the MMDA told those using delivery trucks with plate numbers ending in 9 and 0 that they were allowed to ply metro roads until 3 p.m.

The agency, however, said that it was implementing the number coding scheme Friday although its traffic discipline office director Yves Gonzalez assured persons shuttling relief items using smaller vehicles that they will also be exempted from number coding.

Many relief operations have stepped up its activities at the end of the week after rains ceased and floods subsided in some areas of the metropolis.
