‘Red warning’ remains over Metro Manila as rains continue–Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — A “red warning” signal remains over Metro Manila as torrential rains spawned by the southwest monsoon continued to inundate the metropolis, the state weather bureau said Tuesday night.

Torrential rainfall, from 30.0 to 40.0 millimeter per hour, was observed over Quezon City, CAMANAVA, Manila & Marikina while moderate to heavy rainfall, from 5.0 to 15.0mm/hr, has been observed over the rest of Metro Manila for the past three hours,  the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 9:30 p.m. bulletin.

Due to the effects of the series of thunderstorms embedded in the southwest monsoon flow, expect heavy to intense 10-25.0 mm/hr rains with occasional to frequent torrential rains of more than 30.0mm/hr within three hours, it said.

Metro Manila remained on day-long red alert with Pagasa’s short term warnings Tuesday.

The southwest monsoon is enhanced by tropical storm “Haikui” outside the Philippine territory at 300 kilometers northeast of Taiwan and headed for mainland China.

Metro Manila and parts of Luzon will continue to experience moderate to heavy rains until Wednesday with gradual improvement of weather condition by Thursday and onwards to the weekend, Pagasa said.
