Bay cleanup to take 2-3 days
The cleanup of Roxas Boulevard by personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and volunteers will continue for the next two to three days.
As of Sunday, the amount of garbage collected from Manila Bay by the MMDA has filled up 200 dump trucks.
Most of the trash that had been washed ashore were plastic bags and Styrofoam containers.
“We need two or three more days to finish the task. We have to hurry since we still have to put up sandbags in the flood-prone Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela) area,” Francis Martinez, head of the Metro Parkway Clearing Group, said in an interview.
Over the weekend, the volunteers focused on removing the garbage that had accumulated at the docking area of the Manila Yacht Club.
