Aldeguer continues bid for rights of Banal fight
ALA Boxing Promotions CEO Michael Aldeguer continues to fight for the rights of promotions for the much-awaited WBO world bantamweight title bout between the Philippines’ Aj “Bazooka” Banal and Thailand’s Pungluang Sor Singyu this October.
In yesterday’s official launching of the Pinoy Pride XV at the City Sports Club, Aldeguer said his bid to hold the Sor Singyu-Banal championship bout here still hangs in the balance after Thailand’s premier boxing promotions One Songchai is also continuing its fight to host the match in Thailand.
“The biggest fear I have right now is that it will happen in Thailand,” said Aldeguer. “We all know nothing is impossible in Thailand and I don’t want that to happen to Banal. So I am doing everything I can to prevent that from happening.”
“The difficult part is that if you are gaining an advantage, they also get an advantage. That totally distracts our plans but I am working double time to make it happen here,” added Aldeguer.
Boxing columnist Salven Lagumbay told Aldeguer that a lady promoter of the One Songchai Promotions presented to him an option. According to Lagumbay, the promoter said the Thai boxer can fight here if ALA Boxing Promotions offers them a big purse. For Aldeguer it is still an option they are looking at.
“We are planning to propose big money for them for their boxer to fight here but we are also looking at other options that will benefit both camps,” said Aldeguer.
