Demecillo, Aguelo KO rivals in Compostela

/ 06:34 AM July 24, 2012

PHILIPPINE superflyweight champion Marco Demecillo Singwangcha kept his unbeaten run going after beating Jeffrey Cerna via 7th round knockout in a non-title bout held last Sunday at the Compostela gym.

The boxers had the near capacity crowd on their feet when they traded hard body and head shots right from the opening bell. In the sixth round, a left hook to the ribcage sent Cerna down. He got up but was decked again by a right straight as the bell sounded. In the seventh, a powerful uppercut to the body sent Cerna down for good as Referee Teddy Alivio reached the count of ten at the 1:12 mark.

Cerna’s corner claimed it was a low blow but a review of the video monitor showed the punch landed at the beltline thus a legal blow.
