Crimes up by 36% in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines—Crimes in Metro Manila rose by 10,560 or about 36 percent  during the first quarter of 2012, a National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) official said Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent Leonardo Carlos, NCRPO Public Information Office chief, said a total crime volume of 29,231 was recorded from January to June this year, compared to 18,671 cases during the same period last year.

Carlos said the NCRPO has recorded 325 attacks by riding in tandem suspects where 355 persons were victimized.

During the period, only 19 suspects were arrested and 12 were killed, he said.

About 310 cases remain under investigation.
