Binay wants NBI, BI to explain Delfin Lee’s reported departure from PH
Vice President Jejomar Binay said yesterday he would ask the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to explain if reports that housing developer Delfin Lee had managed to leave the country were true.
Binay cited newspaper reports quoting Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo as saying that Lee, who is facing syndicated estafa charges, may have already left the country to avoid criminal prosecution.
“I was surprised when I read that in the papers this morning. I will not allow that to happen because the victims of Lee are demanding justice,” he said during the 35th birthday celebration of his son, Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay, at the Rockwell Tent in Makati City.
“That’s why I’m sending a letter to the NBI and BI to ask them if the reports were true. I think an investigation should be conducted to determine how and under what circumstances he was able to leave,” Binay said. “I am no longer questioning the failure of the authorities to arrest him, baka naman kasi talaga magaling magtago si Lee. But for him to be able to leave is another story.”
