MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake shook Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Sunday morning, said the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs in an advisory said this tremor was another aftershock from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the province on June 8.

Recorded at exactly 7:28 a.m, with its epicenter located 33 kilometers southeast of Balut Island, Sarangani, the aftershock was initially recorded as magnitude 5.2 but later downgraded by Phivolcs to 4.9.

It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 33 kilometers.

Phivolcs said Intensity IV was recorded in Sarangani, Davao Occidental; while Intensity III and Intensity I were registered in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental and the city of General Santos, respectively.

HELP MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

The Inquirer Foundation is calling for support for communities devastated by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao.

In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the foundation is amplifying appeals for food, clean water and other critical assistance for affected families.

Donors may send contributions directly to the Philippine Red Cross through its official transfer channels, the complete list is available on the PRC’s Facebook page.

The Philippine Red Cross has activated its emergency fund campaign and deployed teams on the ground to provide medical services, distribute relief goods and extend psychosocial support to affected families.
