Magnitude 5.3 quake strikes off Glan, Sarangani
MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off Glan, Sarangani Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said that this is an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit off the coast of Maasim, also in Sarangani last June 8.
In its updated bulletin, Phivolcs downgraded the magnitude from 5.7 to 5.3.
It also updated the epicenter of the earthquake from 21 kilometers west of Balut Island in Sarangani , Davao Occidental to 30 kilometers west of Glan, Sarangani.
The depth of the earthquake of tectonic origin was also modified from 10 kilometers to 17 kilometers.
Phivolcs added that damage is expected after this aftershock.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Friday, upon validation, the death toll from last Monday’s magnitude 7.8 earthquake stands at 46, while 688 individuals were reported injured and 38 are still missing. /gsg
