Barako Bull Energy, Powerade Tigers fight for survival in PBA Governors’ Cup

The Barako Bull Energy saved their season with a big win over the Meralco Bolts last Sunday and in the process also saved the Powerade Tigers.
Who will make the most out of their second lease on life will be known today as the Energy and the Tigers clash in a sudden-death duel in the 37th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Barako Bull edged out the Bolts, 81-79, last Sunday that led to today’s do-or-die game. The victor in today’s game will play a second do-or-die game opposite Meralco tomorrow with the winner taking the sixth and last semifinal seat.
Article continues after this advertisementMeralco, Powerade and Barako all ended the elimination round with four wins and five losses. The Bolts could have taken the last semis seat and avoid going through a dangerous do-or-die match had they beaten the Energy last Sunday.
Article continues after this advertisementAlready in the semis are top seed Rain or Shine (8-1), B-Meg (6-3), Talk N Text (5-4), Barangay Ginebra (5-4), and Petron Blaze (5-4).

Meanwhile, for helping the Painters emerge as the number one seed in the semis, Paul Lee was named the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honors for the period June 25 to July 1.
The former University of the East stalwart fired 18 points and handed out five assists in the Painters’ 92-90 win over Talk ‘N Text Sunday night.
