Bank collector robbed, killed

A bank collector was robbed and killed by motorcycle-riding assailants in barangay Caputatan Norte, Medellin town, northern Cebu.

Police said a bag containing P10,000 in collection money was taken from Dexter Canales, 29, collector of Fairbank Daanbantayan Branch.

Police said Canales was robbed after completing a round of collections in sitio Martinez on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the investigation, the victim had just come from the house of Caputatan barangay captain Agnes Yaon when three men on board a motorcycle waylaid him.

The victim was heard shouting for help following bursts of gunfire.

Canales was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a sugarcane field, said police.

Responding police rushed Canales to the Severo Verallo Memorial District Hospital in Bogo City where he was declared dead by attending physicians.

Follow-up operations to arrest the perpetrators are  in progress, said police./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC
