2 missing fishermen found after 3 weeks

Manila, Philippines—Two fishermen from Camarines Sur reported missing for almost three weeks were found in Cagayan, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported.

Jerry Brancano, 20, and Aniasco Bayong, 50, both of Mapid village, in Lagonoy town, survived a three-week ordeal by eating algae and drinking rain water, it added.

Both sailed to sea on May 30 aboard a motorized banca in the waters of Parongparong in Catanduanes amid a prevailing low pressure area which eventually became typhoon Ambo.

The two were reported missing since June 3, tne report said.

On Monday, the two fishermen were reported to be under the custody of Barangay Chairman Alberto Dican in Babuyan Claro, Municipality of Calayan in Cagayan.

The two were found drifting on sea five kilometers from the shore of Claro village before they were rescued by the residents, it added.

The motorized banca used by the fishermen was still intact but without fuel, the NDRRMC said.

The local Coast Guard and Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office are coordinating for the return of both fishermen to their families, it also said.
