Flash floods hit parts of city due to rains

MANILA, Philippines — Traffic in some areas in the metropolis worsened after heavy rains Tuesday afternoon, but all areas previously reported to have been flooded are now passable, said officers of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

MMDA Metrobase Information officer Vincent Lizada said traffic along the southbound lane of EDSA was moderate with the Timog Flyover to Ortigas experiencing moderate to heavy traffic. Vehicles plying the road from Guadalupe to Magallanes  experienced moderate traffic, he added.

The northbound lane of EDSA was mostly moderate in traffic build-up as well, particularly along FB Harrison to EDSA Taft Rotonda (moderate), and Magallanes to Nepa Q-Mart (moderate to heavy).

Lizada said that “the entire stretch of the southbound lane of C5 has light traffic… maluwag,” while the northbound lane, particularly along Katipunan Flyover to Gate 3 of Ateneo had moderate to heavy traffic.

Michael Cuya a communications equipment operator of MMDA’s Flood Control Division, said that they received no reports of flooding in Marikina City.

He added that all floods reported since past 4 p.m. have subsided as of 5:30 p.m. He said floods were observed in EDSA Quezon Avenue going to Trinoma (tire deep), CP Garcia (southbound, 7 inches), RMB Old Sta. Mesa corner V. Mapa (knee-deep), East Avenue corner EDSA (southbound, half-tire level or roughly 13 inches), EDSA northbound in front of SM Hypermarket in Quezon Avenue (half-tire), but all of these floods had subsided as of 5:30 p.m.
