DANAO CITY dethroned the reigning champions Liloan, 85-80, in the championship game of the 6th Congressman Red Durano Basketball Cup last Saturday at the Danao City Civic Center.

With a raucous crowd supporting the homecourt-toting team, Danao built a nine-point lead in the first half, 43-34, and then held off a furious comeback attempt by last year’s MVP Paul Desiderio to come away with the victory and the title.

Danao wom the whopping cash prize of P50,000 while Liloan settled for P30,000. Sogod, last year’s runner-up, finished in third place as they walloped San Francisco, 87-72, in the third place match.

Current University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panther Brylle Meca, was named as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and also had a spot in the Mythical Five. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
