No LPA, cyclone in next days; monsoon, shear line to prevail Jan 9

No low-pressure area (LPA) or tropical cyclone is expected within and outside the Philippine area of Responsibility (PAR) in the coming days, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). MANILA, Philippines — No low-pressure area (LPA) or tropical cyclone is expected within and outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) in the coming days, according to the state weather agency.

But the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, and the shear line will continue to affect the country with cloudy skies and rains.

“Currently, we are not monitoring any LPA or tropical cyclones in and out of PAR,” Pagasa specialist Rhea Torres said in mixed Filipino and English during a weathercast on Thursday morning.

“In the next few days, we still do not expect any LPA or typhoon that can affect any part of the country,” she added.

For January 9, Torres said the northeast monsoon and shear line will cause overcast skies and rains in parts of Luzon and Visayas.

She noted that the shear line continues to affect the eastern portion of Southern Luzon, specifically the Bicol Region and Mimaropa, as well as the Visayas, while the northeast monsoon will bring light to moderate rains to the remaining portions of Luzon.

Fair weather with sudden rain showers due to localized thunderstorms will be experienced in Mindanao on Thursday, Torres added.

She also said that no gale warning was raised in any of the country’s seaboards for January 9.
