Shear line, amihan to bring rain to parts of PH on Dec. 24

MANILA, Philippines — The shear line and the northeast monsoon (locally known as amihan) will continue to bring overcast skies and rain to several areas of the country on Tuesday, a day before Christmas, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Magpapatuloy ang ulan na dulot ng shear line sa ilang areas ng Southern Luzon, sa mga rehiyon ng Calabarzon pati na rin sa Bicol Region at malaking bahagi ng Mimaropa,” said Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil.

(The rain caused by the shear line will continue in some areas of Southern Luzon, including the regions of Calabarzon, the Bicol Region, and large parts of Mimaropa.)

Due to this, Villamil warned residents in these areas, especially Quezon Province and Bicol Region, to be wary of flash floods and landslides.

“For the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila, inaasahan ang patuloy na pagiral ng malakas na northeast monsoon kaya maulap na kalangitan ang ating inaasahan bukas, at kung may ulan man ay mga light rains o pagulan lamang especially sa area ng Ilocos Region,” he added.

(For the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila, the strong northeast monsoon is expected to continue, so we expect cloudy skies tomorrow, and if there is rain, it will only be light rains or showers, especially in the area of the Ilocos Region.)

Meanwhile, the shear line is also expected to bring rain over parts of Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao, specifically, in Kalayaan Islands, parts of Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas, Samar Islands, as well Leyte and Biliran islands in the afternoon and evening.

The rest of Visayas and Mindanao, on the other hand, is forecast to have generally fair weather with chances of isolated rain.

Pagasa said the temperature range in key cities or areas across the country for Tuesday will be:

  • Metro Manila: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 15 to 24 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City: 22 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao: 21 to 28 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City: 25 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay: 21 to 27 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 25 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan De Oro City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga City: 23 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Davao City: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
