Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon named

MANILA, Philippines—The Office of the Ombudsman has a new Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon who will begin his seven year term on June 1.

Deputy Ombudsman Gerard Mosquera, a former commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Good Government, will replace Francis Jardeleza, who was earlier named Solicitor General, according to an announcement from the Ombudsman’s office.

Mosquera is no stranger to the Office of the Ombudsman. He served as a Graft Investigation Officer III for a brief period there in 2003.

He also worked at United Nations and United States Agency for International Development-funded projects from 2003 to 2010.

He used to be the Chief of Party for the Justice Institutions Strengthening Project in East Timor; he was the Senior Legal Adviser and Program Manager for Anti-Corruption for the Rule of Law Effectiveness Project; he worked as UN Anti-Corruption Adviser to the Inspector General of Timor-Leste for the UN Mission of Support in East Timor; and he was also the Rule of Law Task Manager for the Economic Growth Technical Assistance Project.

Mosquera graduated with honors with a degree in BS Management and Bachelor of Laws from the Ateneo de Manila University. He placed second in the 1992 Bar Examinations.

He also has a Master of Laws degree from the Kings College London and a Master of Public Administration degree from the Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government.
