More Luzon areas under state of calamity due to Typhoon Carina

MANILA, Philippines – More areas in Luzon were placed under a state of calamity due to the onslaught of Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) and the southwest monsoon on Wednesday, Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. said on Thursday.

Speaking at a Palace briefing, Abalos said the information came from the data his office has gathered.

“The entire National Capital Region (NCR) is already under a state of calamity [as well] Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Cavite — all province-wide. Bataan and Bulacan are also province-wide,” he said in Filipino.

He added that based on the data on evacuation, the most affected regions are the NCR, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Central Luzon.

The Department of Interior and Local Government has also tagged the following municipalities as “hard-hit areas” with immediate needs:

Region III

• Abucay
• Baliwag
• Obando
• Plaridel
• Pulilan
• Sta. Maria

Region IV

• Cainta
• Taytay
• San Mateo
• Morong
• Rodriguez
• Angono
• Tingloy

Based on the presentation by Abalos, hard-hit local government units were initially identified based on the following:

• Little to no access to relief goods
• Suffered widespread damages
• High number of displacement
• Lack of non-food items
