MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will wear a barong made by artisans from Calabarzon and Western Visayas for his third State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said on Sunday.

“[President Marcos’] Sona barong is a collaborative work of artisans from Lucban, Quezon, Taal, Batangas, and Aklan,” the PCO said in a Viber message to reporters.

No other details were provided as to the chief executive’s outfit.

Aside from Marcos, Senator Nancy Binay and Kabataan party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel also shared details of their outfit for the Sona.

Although guests for the event are barred from wearing outfits with political messages, Manuel revealed that he would be wearing a “protest barong” featuring a mural that “symbolizes the hope of the new generation.”

Meanwhile, Binay will wear an all-piña terno designed by Randy Ortiz. She said it was “meticulously handloom-woven by the master artisans of Aklan.”

The president delivers the Sona every fourth Monday of July to report the government’s achievements, unveil its agenda, and ask Congress to pass priority measures.

To ensure public safety during the Sona, the Philippine National Police will deploy 23,000 personnel to Metro Manila.
