Marcos wants healthcare system in Romblon upgraded

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday vowed to develop and modernize the healthcare system in Romblon province.

In his speech, delivered by Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr., Marcos said the Department of Health (DOH) is working with local officials to modernize the healthcare facilities in the province.

He also said the DOH and the local government are working on hiring more doctors and other healthcare workers.

“In fact, last April, [we have] provided a Super Health Center in the town of Magdiwang in Sibuyan Island, Marcos said in Filipino.

He referred to the P846 million used for the government’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program, which covers 134 health facilities in Mimaropa.

The government also disbursed P2.37 million for the medical, nursing, dental, and nutrition services for learners, teachers, and non-teaching staff from seven school divisions in the region.

“We hope that you will further cultivate the help we bring so that you can further enrich your province,” he added.

Abalos, who represented Marcos, led the distribution of P262.453 worth of financial assistance to El Niño-hit farmers and fisherfolk in Romblon.

The President was supposed to arrive in the province, but opted to cancel due to inclement weather.
