8,000 Leyte residents get financial assistance from national government
MANILA, Philippines — A total of 8,000 beneficiaries in the Leyte received P5,000 each in financial assistance and rice packages from the national government.
In a statement on Sunday, House Speaker Martin Romualdez said qualified Leyte residents received benefits from the Cash and Rice Distribution (CARD) Program and the Integrated Scholarship and Incentives for the Youth (ISIP for the Youth) Program.

“[A]ng dalawang programang ito ay mahalaga para sa amin sa Kongreso, kasi direktang tulong ito sa sektor ng mga qualified na mag-aaral, senior citizens, PWDs (persons with disabilities), indigenous peoples, single parents at marami pang iba,” the lawmaker said.
For the CARD Program, 5,000 beneficiaries recently received P5,000 financial aid through the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) Program and 20 kilograms of rice.
Article continues after this advertisementMoreover, 3,000 qualified beneficiaries in the province also received P5,000 each through the DSWD’s AICS and 5 kilograms of rice.
Article continues after this advertisementRomualdez said the CARD program aims to assist those in vulnerable sectors, such as the poor, indigent senior citizens, PWDs and single parents, among others.
Meanwhile, the ISIP for the Youth Program helps eligible tertiary, technical and vocational students “cope with the strain of mounting educational expenses,” the speaker noted.
On the other hand, student beneficiaries “will also be enrolled under Commission on Higher Education’s Tulong Dunong Program where students can get scholarship assistance per semester amounting to a total of P15,000,” he added.
They will also get priority slots under the Government Internship Program for employment after graduation, and their unemployed parents or guardians may also be enrolled in the Department of Labor and Employment’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program.
