1 dead as fire razes elderly couple’s house in Olongapo City

OLONGAPO CITY — An elderly man in this city died after he was trapped in their house while it was being razed by a fire on Sunday, April 28, authorities said.

A report from village officials identified the fatality as Mario Casaway, a senior citizen who resided in Barangay Gordon Heights. He was immobile before the incident, the report from village officials said.

Casaway suffered severe burns that resulted in his death.

An initial investigation showed that Casaway’s wife was cooking near their doorway when the flame suddenly engulfed the area and spread quickly to their shanty.

Due to his health condition, Casaway failed to leave their house while their neighbors saved his wife.

Firefighting volunteers from the village managed to extinguish the blaze immediately.
