Phivolcs: Magnitude 4.4 earthquake jolts Batangas town
LUCENA CITY — A magnitude 4.4 earthquake rocked Calatagan town in Batangas province on Monday night, April 8, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
According to the state seismologist, the epicenter of the tectonic earthquake that occurred at 9:57 p.m. was located 20 kilometers southwest of Calatagan. It had a depth of focus of 105 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the tremor was not expected to cause damage or aftershocks.
Phivolcs also said the earthquake was felt in Magallanes town in Cavite province at Intensity 1.

Article continues after this advertisementAlso on Monday, at 1:56 p.m., a magnitude 2.1 tremor swayed Calatagan.

Batangas is one of the most seismically active areas in the Philippines, generated mainly by the Lubang Fault, located between Mindoro Island and Batangas.
