Pagasa: Bicol Region to see cloudy skies, scattered rain, thunderstorms

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather agency warned of possible flash floods or landslides in the Bicol Region as cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms were forecast to occur in the area on Sunday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said such weather conditions in the Bicol Region will be brought by the easterlies, which, along with the northeast monsoon, is currently influencing climate in some parts of the country.

The northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, was seen to cause cloudy skies with light rains in Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.

It is also predicted to trigger partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and Calabarzon on Sunday.

State meteorologists, however, said the weather conditions forecast for these areas will have no significant impact.

As for the rest of the country, Pagasa said the easterlies and localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. It added that during the occurrence of severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides are possible in affected areas.

Pagasa likewise issued a gale warning as moderate to rough seas may be expected in Northern Luzon coasts, with waves reaching up to 3.1 meters high on Sunday, due to moderate to strong winds.

The rest of the country’s seaboards, it noted, will have light to moderate winds which may trigger slight to moderate sea conditions, with waves of 0.6 to 2.5 meters high.
