NIA assessing Sarangani earthquake damage
MANILA, Philippines — The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) said on Saturday that it had already called its regional managers to assess the damage brought by the Mindanao earthquake to their sector.
On Friday, a magnitude 6.8 quake hit the waters off Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
According to the NIA, the call was upon the instruction of Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr. to check on the earthquake’s damage to the agricultural sector.
The NIA said that Acting Administrator Engr. Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen has already called on NIA regional managers in the affected regions to do an inventory of their affected irrigation infrastructures and offices.
The administration also noted that the assessment is to secure the safety of their employees and farmer-beneficiaries.
“At present, reports on the actual assessment and inventory activities are being undertaken in the NIA Field Offices,” the administration said in a press release.
