MANILA, Philippines—Philippine seas are safe from any radioactivity resulting from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant accident in Japan, according to the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI).

PNRI Deputy Director Corazon Bernido said there is no reason for anyone in the country to cancel plans to hit the beach.

“DOST PNRI does not expect that harmful levels of radioactivity will reach Philippine waters. I would like to assure everyone it’s still safe to go swimming especially this coming summer when kids are on vacation,” Bernido said at a press briefing.
