Man nabbed for firing gun in Camp Crame

A 50-year-old man was arrested after he fired a handgun inside the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City on Friday.

The suspect, whose identity was withheld, claimed he fired the gun to protest corruption in the upcoming elections, according to PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo.

In a police report, the gunman on his bicycle entered Gate 2 of Camp Crame along Boni Serrano Avenue around 1:40 p.m. on Friday.

Upon reaching Bulwagang Lapu-Lapu, which houses the PNP Museum—across the National Headquarters building where the top officials of the PNP hold office—he fired his .22-caliber revolver once, but immediately caught the attention of police personnel.

No one was reported hurt. The gunman, a resident of Barangay Caniogan, Pasig City, was arrested.

He faces charges of illegal discharge of firearms and illegal possession of firearms in violation of the election gun ban. He was brought to the Forensic Group for medical and drug examination and turned over to the Cubao police station of the Quezon City Police District for detention.

Seized from him was the revolver loaded with two live ammunition, and an empty shell, cash and assorted elections fliers. —Dexter Cabalza
