JAKARTA, Indonesia – George Royeca, CEO of Angkas, a leading motorcycle taxi and delivery service provider in the Philippines, delivered a compelling address during the 2023 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit Indonesia-Philippines Asean collaboration meeting.
The roundtable meeting, expertly organized by the Philippines Asean Business Advisory Council under the leadership of Joey Concepcion, was attended by the Philippine President, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and his Asean delegation.
Mr. Royeca’s speech focused on the importance of education, training, and the integration of the millions of fully capable informal sector workers within his industry, specifically motorcycle riders. He proposed a comprehensive system to empower these workers to lift themselves out of poverty.
In his speech, Mr. Royeca stated, “Financial inclusion should be for everyone. While the traditional financial system works for corporations and employees, it’s vital to establish a new system for our informal workers just as a new ecosystem was created for MSMEs.”
