Goring affected at least 196,000 in 7 regions; 1 person reported missing – NDRRMC

NDRRMC says Goring affected at least 196,000 in 7 regions

MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Super Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) has so far affected 196,926 people in seven regions in Luzon and the Visayas.

In its latest situation bulletin, the NDRRMC also said it received a report that one person was missing due to inclement weather caused by Goring in Western Visayas (Region 6). The NDRRMC has received no reports of death or injuries as of August 30.

According to the NDRRMC, 196,926 people or 56,410 families in 832 barangays in Ilocos (Region 1), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Central Luzon (Region 3), Calabarzon (Region 4-A), Mimaropa (Region 4-B), Cordillera Administrative Region, and Western Visayas were affected by Goring.

The number included 35,095 people, or 9,608 families, who were displaced and currently staying in 376 evacuation centers and 13,092 people, or 3,407 families, now sheltered outside evacuation centers, the NDRRMC said.

Additionally, the agency received reports that 193 areas were flooded due to the direct and indirect effects of Goring and that 28 roads and 19 bridges were impassable because of the weather disturbances. To date, the cost of damage to infrastructure due to bad weather was pegged at P41.175 million.

The state weather bureau said Super Typhoon Goring is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
