Signal No.2 up in three areas in N. Luzon due to Typhoon Goring

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 was raised on Monday in three areas in Northern Luzon due to Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) — Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the extreme northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan, which consists of Santa Ana and Gonzaga.

Goring was last spotted 240 km east of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, according to the 11 p.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

It was carrying maximum sustained winds of 155 kph and gusts of up to 190 kph as it moved north-northwest at 10 kph.

Meanwhile,  Pagasa raised Signal No. 1  raised in the following areas:

  • northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan: Camalaniugan, Pamplona, Santa Teresita, Baggao, Buguey, Claveria, Aparri, Ballesteros, Abulug, Sanchez-Mira, Santa Praxedes, Allacapan, Lal-Lo, Lasam, Peñablanca, Iguig, Amulung, Gattaran, Alcala, and Santo Niño
  • eastern portion of Isabela: Dinapigue, San Mariano, llagan City, Tumauini, San Pablo, Cabagan, Maconacon, Divilacan, and Palanan
  • northern portion of Apayao: Flora, Calanasan, Luna, Pudtol, Santa Marcela

Goring is still expected to make either a close approach or landfall in Batanes between in the morning or afternoon of Wednesday and is predicted to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning.

Pagasa warned of heavy rainfall — ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters — over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of Ilocos Norte, and the northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan until Tuesday.
