Andrins dominate rain-delayed Run for Gifted Kids

THE ANDRIN family from Lapu-Lapu  came out with guns ablaze as they dominated the Run For Gifted Kids that started at the Piazza Elisia in Talamban, Mandaue City.

The Aldrin siblings, composed of Cherry, Lovely Fe and eldest Jhean, were accompanied by their father Ronnie  in their title-haul yesterday.

The 14-year-old Jhean won the women’s 3-kilometer race while Lovely Fe and Cherry finished 1-2 in the women’s 8k category.

Their father Ronnie, meanwhile, survived a close race to win the men’s 3k category.

Jhean clocked 14:33.29 to rule her category while the 13-year-old Lovely Fe clocked 38 minutes in the 8k race. 10-year-old Cherry was just a second away from her older sister in the 8k  category.

The siblings were coming off wins in the JCI Run and Globe Run For Home.

Their father Ronny survived a neck-to-neck battle in the 3k race against Riez Enriquez and Jess Gonzaga.

Ronny finished in 11 minutes and 2.33 seconds while Enriquez followed at 11:02.40.  Gonzaga was at third with a time of 11:02.60.

The race was delayed for about 30 minutes due to intermittent rains. Some of the runners also opted not to push through because of the bad weather. But still, the race, which aims to generate funds to aid a gifted kid scholar of the Exceptional Children’s Educational Center (ECEC) in Talamban, pushed through with more than a hundred participants.

Among them was Kenyan Francis Kakui, who  dominated the men’s 8k category with a time of 26 minutes and 33.29 seconds.

Joebert Carolino placed second with a time of 28 minutes and 17.33 seconds while Jodel Batarilan claimed the third spot, clocking 28 minutes and 31.45 seconds.

Amormia Bolario clocked 19 minutes and 33.81 seconds while Sharon Suico finished in 21 mintues and 55.78 seconds to complete the top 3 in the women’s 3k race.
