Pagasa eases typhoon signals as Egay continues to weaken

State meteorologists on Wednesday lifted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TWCS) No. 4 in parts of northern Luzon as Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) continues to weaken.

MANILA, Philippines — State meteorologists on Wednesday lifted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TWCS) No. 4 in parts of northern Luzon as Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) continues to weaken.

To date, TCWS No. 3 is now the highest wind signal, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)’s latest cyclone bulletin.

To date, only the northwestern portion of Ilocos Norte is under TCWS No. 3, where winds greater than 89 kilometers per hour (kph) to up to 117 kph could be expected in at least 18 hours.

These areas are under TCWS No. 2, where winds of greater than 62 kilometers per hour (kph) and up to 88 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours: Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Kalinga, Abra, the rest of Ilocos Norte, Apayao, northern and central portion of Ilocos Sur, western portion of Mountain Province and Batanes.

Here are the areas under TCWS No. 1, where winds of 39-61 kph or intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours: Isabela, the rest of Mountain Province, Ifugao, Zambales, Pangasinan, Benguet, La Union, Nueva Viscaya, the rest of Ilocos Sur, Qurino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pampanga, northern portion of Bataan and the northern portion of Bulacan.

As of 7 p.m., Egay’s center is located 95 kilometers west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kph with gustiness of up to 230 kph.

The typhoon’s current wind and gustiness is now weaker than previously reported wind strength of 175 kph and gustiness of 240 kph.
