3 Northern Luzon airports sustain minor damage from Egay – Caap

MANILA, Philippines — Three North Luzon airports have sustained minor damage due to the effects of Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri), which continues to traverse the region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) reported that flight operations at Laoag International Airport had been halted due to inclement weather. The agency added that the airport would temporarily transfer its domestic pre-departure area to a different location after sustaining partial damage to its ceiling and doors.

Vigan Airport also suffered minimal damage to its facilities. In Pangasinan, the Lingayen Airport’s ramp was flooded due to heavy rainfall and strong winds, damaging part of its fire station’s roof, said Caap.

Meanwhile, no damage was reported in Baguio Airport, Rosales Airport, and San Fernando Tower Facility.

Tuguegarao Airport also halted its flight operations due to power interruptions and flooding in its taxiway but reported no damage.

Similarly, Iba Airport, Basco Airport, Cauayan Airport, and Palanan Airport continued to experience strong winds and rain but have not sustained any damage to their facilities.

As of its latest advisory, Caap said San Jose Airport’s Cebgo flight to and from Manila had been canceled, affecting 155 passengers.

In line with this, Caap reminds passengers “to prioritize their safety and cooperate with airport and airline authorities during this weather disturbance. Travelers were advised to contact their respective airlines for any changes to their flight schedules, alternative arrangements, or further information.”
