Naia Terminal 3 electrical audit underway after Labor Day power outage

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Friday said that it has begun its electrical audit of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 3, which was hit by a power outage on Labor Day.

In a statement, MIAA officer-in-charge Bryan Co said that the audit is being conducted with Meralco and is expected to be completed in three weeks.

Co  said that based on the audit’s outcome, MIAA will asses which of its equipment need to be upgraded, rehabilitated or purchased to make Terminal 3’s power system “reliable and resilient.”

The MIAA is also looking into the possibility of renting generator sets to expand the capacity of Terminal 3’s backup power.

Co earlier said that the MIAA would need around P1-billion to procure electric generators to achieve the Naia Terminal 3’s requirements for backup power.

The power outage at Naia Terminal 3 struck at around 1:05 a.m on May 1. Power was restored at around 8:46 a.m.,
