PNP: Holy Week ‘generally peaceful’
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said the observance of Holy Week nationwide was “generally peaceful.”
“The Philippine National Police on Sunday noted a generally peaceful and orderly celebration of Holy Week this year,” PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr said in a statement.
Azurin attributed the peaceful observance of Holy Week to the strict implementation of the “Oplan Ligtas Sumvac 2023” as well as the nationwide-coordinated police operations.
Azurin also said the PNP will now focus on air and sea ports, as well as main thoroughfares nationwide as the surge of passengers returning to Metro Manila is expected in the coming days.
“Deployment of personnel will focus now on bus terminals, seaports, and airports as activities and movement of the traveling public will be more in these areas,” Azurin said.
