Fire strikes Baguio City Public Market
UPDATED BAGUIO CITY, Benguet, Philippines — Fire struck the upper levels of the Baguio City Public Market before Sunday (Mar 12) midnight, destroying approximately 1,700 stalls, Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong said.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze at 1:13 a.m., after it gutted parts of the market’s Block 3 and all of Block 4 near what used to be the Hilltop Building zone, according to the Baguio City Public Information Office. The market had previously been struck by fire, the latest in 2009 which occurred after Baguio had concluded its annual Baguio Flower Festival month.
