MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has placed under investigation one of its employees who was allegedly involved ”fraudulent dealings.”

DepEd issued the statement on Tuesday, days after the arrest of Diokno Eje alias “Vaughn Vincent,” who is allegedly the mastermind behind the scam and was arrested in Taguig City after he pointed a gun at a motorcycle rider.

DepEd said it welcomes the arrest of Eje, saying it is investigating a similar case of “fraudulent dealings” of its employee named “Maricon.”

“The Department is investigating a similar case of fraudulent dealings of a DepEd employee named Maricon. Administrative proceedings for various charges have been instituted and are already underway,” it said.

DepEd said complainants have provided “critical information” against the employee, and it encouraged those who have knowledge of her transactions to come forward.

“DepEd is encouraging those who may have personal knowledge or dealings with Maricon to come forward and provide us with more information,” the agency said.

To recall, eight supposed “presidential appointees” went to Malacañang on January 27 after being instructed by a certain Undersecretary Eduardo Diokno and Assistant Secretary Johnson See to go to the Palace for their supposed swearing-in rites to be administered by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. himself.

The victims paid huge sums of money to secure positions in the government after receiving information or invitation about available government positions.
