The PSA says that in 2020, the number of Filipino singles dropped to 34.6 million

MANILA, Philippines — The number of single Filipinos in 2020 slightly dipped to 34.26 million, meaning that four out of 10 Filipinos were not married then, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) 2020 Census of Population and Housing released Friday.

In 2015, the total of Filipino singles was 34.54 million.

PSA poll also revealed that single Filipino men outnumbered single Filipino women in 2020, with 18.54 million and 15.72 million, respectively across the country.

The 2020 Census of Population and Housing based its data on 86.33 million people aged 10 and above.

Correspondingly, the count married people in the country in 2020 increased from 32.35 million in 2015 to 33.87 million in 2020, according to the census.

“The percentage of married persons in 2020 was very close to that in 2015. However, despite such close ratios, their number increased by 1.52 million,” the PSA pointed out.

A total of 16.97 million married individuals were men while 16.90 million were female, based on the 2020 PSA survey.

“There are more males than females among the never-married persons, married persons, and common-law or live-in marital arrangements,” state statisticians noted.

The PSA’s 2020 Census of Population and Housing likewise said that the number of Filipinos in common-law or live-in arrangements soared to 12.66 million from 7.24 million in 2015.

An increase was likewise seen among divorced, separated, or annulled individuals from 1.21 million to 1.64 million over the same period.

Meanwhile, the number of widowed individuals in the country also increased from 3.55 million to 3.88 million in 2020, but the PSA explained that its percent distribution remained stagnant at 4.5 percent.

The PSA reported that widowed, divorced, separated, and annulled women outnumbered men.
