DTI Zamboanga vows to look for investors to boost local ship repair industry
MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Zamboanga has pledged to work with the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) in looking for potential investors for local ship building and repair products and processed goods.
The DTI Zamboanga, in a statement on Friday, said this after its provincial director Grace Aduca met with Marina Zamboanga regional director and officer-in-charge Galileo Garcia on Wednesday to discuss their efforts in improving the ship repair industry in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga Peninsula.
The DTI regional office said that Aduca has vowed “to strengthen and keep up the engagement with the agency (Marina) by looking for possible investors in the ship building and ship repair industry to identify and showcase industry products, and processed goods for export or trade” to other regions, particularly the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East Asean Growth Area.
Among the other things they had talked about in the meeting was the importance of issuing a license to operate and certificate of product registration for any commercial product, it added.
DTI Zamboanga noted that Aduca has likewise expressed support for Marina’s Maritime Industry Development Plan, which seeks to replace obsolete and uneconomic vessels, modernize the local fleet, enhance domestic ship building, repair, maintain and develop a pool of trained manpower. – Kimberly D.
