Comelec happy with results of new listup
Out of the 2.5 million new voters who signed up in the past seven weeks, less than 9,000 availed of the “Register Anywhere” system introduced by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The election agency reported that a total of 2,504,502 individuals registered in the latest round of nationwide voter registration that ran from Dec. 12 to Jan. 31.
The number included 8,979 voters who registered in the Register Anywhere project booths in about a dozen malls and government offices.
Despite the low number of registrants, Comelec said the pilot testing of the voter registration innovation was “very successful.”
“We fully achieved the goal of testing our systems and IT infrastructure on the possibility of remote registration while remaining fully compliant to the Voter’s Registration Act,” said Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco.
