Comelec conducts voter education seminars
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has launched its voter education seminar nationwide ahead of the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections.
The drive started with a seminar on Jan. 9 and will continue until Jan. 13, the Comelec said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The first seminar was held in 30 schools nationwide, with satellite registration included in the programs.
As of Tuesday, Comelec has conducted seminars for 3,787 senior high school students in the provinces of Isabela, Cagayan, Negros Oriental, Tarlac, Bohol, Lanao del Norte, Davao, Zamboanga, and Capiz.
Its satellite registration in these seminars also garnered 741 regular applicants and 573 SK applicants, for a total of 1,314 registrants, as of the second day of the education drive.
Article continues after this advertisementThe seminar tackled the importance of being a voter, the step-by-step process of voter registration, the qualifications and duties of elected officials in the Barangay and SK, and the fight against disinformation in elections, among others.
The Comelec said the drive was part of its commitment to reach even the most far-flung island municipalities in accordance with its mandate to inform and produce an active Filipino electorate.
