Comelec promises speedy resolution of election cases

Comelec commits to expediting election cases

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday committed to expedite the resolution of election cases.

“From now on, all other cases will have to be resolved expeditiously. ‘Yan po ang aming commitment (that is our commitment),” said Comelec chairman George Garcia in a statement.

According to Garcia, it has already released resolutions on several election cases involving Mayors who were disqualified at the Comelec division level and the Comelec en banc.

Kasi sadyang pinag-aralan po nang mabuti “yan,” Garcia explained.

Garcia also announced that starting from the upcoming 2023 Barangay elections, the Comelec will be hearing cases filed concerning nuisance candidates directly at the en banc level for a swift resolution.

Recently, the Comelec dismissed over 1,000 election cases from the 2010 and 2013 national and local elections.
