Heavy rainfall causes seven landslides in Iligan City

ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, Philippines — Heavy rainfall due to a low pressure area caused at least seven landslides that damaged roads and houses in several barangays (villages) Iligan City on Thursday, according to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

Nouvel Krish Aemery Lagapa, the CDRRMO chief, said the landslides occurred in the following areas:

  • C3 diversion road
  • Suarez-Abaga road
  • near the entrance of a military detachment on the national highway in Barangay Suarez
  • Sitio Olas in Barangay Ubaldo Laya
  • Barangay Upper Hinaplanon
  • Barangay Rogongon
  • Two in Barangay Pugaan

The access road toward Sitio Green Valley in Barangay Tubod was blocked by mud and rocks after a portion of a nearby hill cracked and slid down.

Pastor Antonio Pulgo said no one was hurt during the incident.
