Continuous rains trigger class, work suspensions in Bicol region

LEGAZPI CITY — Classes at all levels in various Bicol towns were suspended Wednesday, Jan. 4, due to the threat of continuous rains brought by the northeast monsoon and low-pressure area.

In Albay province, classes at all levels were suspended in Guinobatan, Oas, Pio Duran, and Libon towns.

Albay Governor Edcel Greco Lagman delegated the authority to suspend work and classes to the mayors.

Lagman advised the public to be vigilant and monitor the weather.

Sto. Domingo Mayor Joseling Aguas suspended classes in the coastal barangays of Alimsog, Buhatan, Salvacion, and Calayucay due to the threat of landslides that heavy rains may trigger.

In Sipocot town in Camarines Sur province, Mayor Tomas Bocago also suspended classes at all levels.

In Libmanan, Mayor Jesus Camara ordered work and class suspension in anticipation of risks posed by continuous rains.

But those involved in delivering basic and health services, disaster response, and other vital services would operate.

Local disaster officials in Lupi town said the spillways in Poblacion to Barrera Jr. and Poblacion to San Pedro were unpassable to all vehicles due to overflowing water.

Sea travel of small crafts with 250 gross tonnages or less was suspended in various Bicol ports due to the gale warning.
