The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered the Philippine National Police to go after car owners with illegal commemorative plates on their vehicles, including officials of law enforcement agencies. “We have ordered the PNP-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) to work with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to ensure that motorists are observing the proper regulations on the use of commemorative plates,” the DILG said on Friday. This came after a post on Facebook of a photo of a vehicle with a commemorative plate of the Philippine National Police Academy Alumni Association Inc., covering its LTO-issued license plate. Under LTO rules, a commemorative plate will not be superimposed over a license plate. —Dexter Cabalza
