Seven held for hauling illegally cut Narra flitches in Kalinga

QUEZON, Isabela — Seven people were arrested while they were hauling P259,000 worth of illegally cut Narra flitches on a river bank in Tanudan town, Kalinga province on Wednesday (December 7), police said Thursday.

Capt. Ruffy Manganip, Kalinga police information officer, identified the suspects as Nelson Butta-on, 25; Edward Binokkan, 24; Jocel Ayangdo, 24; Enrico Labaris, 36; Dhemer Flores, 26; Grejie Magipon, 36; and a minor, all residents of Nagtipunan town, Quirino province.

The suspects were placed in Tanudan’s police custody.

Tanudan Mayor Jaedick Dagadag informed the police that he received a tip that the illegally sourced Narra flitches would be transported to Quirino.

Police and personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), who immediately went to the area, managed to confirm the report.

The seized 518 board feet of Narra flitches were placed in the custody of the DENR while a case of breaching the anti-illegal logging law is being readied against the suspects.
