DENR seizes P4M illegally cut lumber in another Nueva Vizcaya operation
TUGUEGARAO CITY — At least P4 million worth of illegally cut Narra wood was intercepted in Aritao town, Nueva Vizcaya province on Wednesday (September 14) evening, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
At a press briefing on Friday, Gwendolyn Bambalan, regional executive director of DENR in Cagayan Valley, said 281 pieces of lumber were found inside a 14-wheeler cargo truck that was intercepted by authorities in Barangay Calitlitan.
Bambalan said the seized forest products reportedly came from outside the region. It was the second batch of confiscated lumber in Nueva Vizcaya since Monday.
“We’re strengthening our forest protection convergence initiatives with Region 1 and Cordillera Administrative Region for a stringent anti-illegal logging campaign by the department,” she added.
On Monday, DENR personnel also seized illegally cut lumber worth about P900,000 after intercepting two vans from Nueva Vizcaya’s Santa Fe town.
