Alleged NPA rebel yields to police in Rizal province

LUCENA CITY — An alleged member of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to police in Antipolo City in Rizal province on Sunday, Dec. 4.

The Region 4A police reported that Carl Carza, alias “Ka Leon,” turned himself in around 5 p.m. to the police headquarters in Barangay San Jose.

The rebel returnee, tagged as an NPA squad leader operating in the Calabarzon region, turned over a .38 revolver with six bullets.

A former NPA rebel from Laguna identified Carza in a photo taken in 2016 while in training inside a rebel lair in Rizal, the report said.

Carza received initial help from the government, including P3,000, 50 kilos of rice, and assorted food items worth P3,500.

The government is preparing the necessary assistance to the former rebel in reintegration protocols under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.

A rebel returnee can avail himself of firearm remuneration and housing, medical, loans, and legal assistance, among other forms of help, from the government. INQ
