Quezon LGU gives cash gifts to 11 nonagenarians

At least 11 senior citizens, ages 90 and 95, in General Nakar town, Quezon province, received cash incentives from the local government on Monday, November 14.

LUCENA CITY – At least 11 senior citizens, ages 90 and 95, in General Nakar town, Quezon province, received cash incentives from the local government on Monday, November 14.

In a post on its Facebook page, the local government announced that Mayor Eliseo Ruzol and the local social welfare and development office handed P20,000 to nine 90-year-old residents and P30,000 to two other 95-year-old residents in a ceremony held at the town hall.

The cash incentives were meant to recognize the elderly folk in the town before they reach the age of 100.

It was not immediately known how many of the recipients were male or female.

Under Republic Act No. 10868, Filipinos reaching 100 years of age or older will be given a P100,000 cash gift and a letter of congratulation from the president for their longevity.

However, the Department of Social Welfare and Development does not have enough funds to implement the provision of RA No. 10868 fully.

Most centenarians ended up being waitlisted for the cash gift.

DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo has been pushing for additional funds to implement three of its programs, including the initiative to provide privileges for Filipino centenarians. INQ
